Sensus Access

Sensus Access

Sensus Access is a service subscribed to by the University to support independence, self-sufficiency, and agency amongst students with disability and Inclusion Technology.

Sensus Access is a one-stop self-service, and it allows Insubria students and university staff to automatically convert documents into a range of alternate media such as MP3, DAISY, e-books, and digital Braille. The service can remediate inaccessible documents and deliver them in more accessible and less tricky formats.

Sensus Access is very useful for foreign language students to facilitate learning. For this reason, Sensus Access includes support for many foreign languages.

Sensus Access offers six different categories of services, and it includes:

  • Audio services - Conversion into plain MP3 files as well as DAISY Talking Books, including Daisy books with spoken math. The audio conversion features currently include high-quality voices for Arabic, Arabic/English bilingual, Bulgarian, British and American English, Czech, Danish, Dutch, German, Greenlandic, French, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Castilian and Latin American Spanish, and Welsh.
  • Braille services - Transcription of documents in contracted and uncontracted Braille by the Braille code for Unified English Braille (UEB) as well as the national systems for Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, British English, American English, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian and Spanish. The documents can furthermore be formatted and paginated, and delivered as ready-to-emboss files in a variety of digital Braille formats.
  • Machine translation services - Documents in one language can be translated into another language with a very high degree of accuracy. Source documents may even be multilingual. Source languages may be specified or auto-detected.
